Due diligence for high-risk areas, from local sources

Check what local outlets report about mine sites, suppliers and trade routes in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. Living Signals groups that reporting into daily Signals linked to the source articles.

Built for: Mining and energy operators, commodity buyers and traders, and ESG and responsible-sourcing teams.

Why it matters

What it adds to responsible sourcing

Reporting across 48 countries

We read local, national and international outlets in 25+ languages across 48 countries, many of them fragile or conflict-affected.

Community and human-rights risk

Land disputes, protests, harm to workers and armed-group activity near a site are often reported locally before anywhere else.

Evidence for due-diligence reports

Responsible-sourcing frameworks ask you to identify risks and keep monitoring them. Signals give you dated, sourced evidence for both.

Satellite views for selected events

We are piloting satellite views for selected events. For the gold-mine collapse below, imagery from earlier in the year shows how the site grew.

Use cases

Where it fits in responsible sourcing

High-risk area screening

Check a sourcing region before you commit.

Review what has been reported in a district or province: armed groups, unrest, disasters and harm to local communities, each with its sources.

Site monitoring

Follow what is reported around your operations.

Check local reports of community tensions and incidents around mines, plants and concessions, with new Signals each day.

Route watch

Closures and strikes along supply routes.

Follow strikes, road closures, border incidents and port disruption in the countries your goods move through.

Due-diligence reporting

Sourced evidence for reports and audits.

Export the Signals behind a risk assessment to support due-diligence reports, audits and grievance reviews.

From the data

A real Signal from our data

Gold mine collapse near the Cameroon–Central African Republic border

  • Zamboye artisanal gold site, Cameroon–CAR border
  • 18–21 Aug 2026
  • 10 sources
  • 2 languages

A pit collapsed at an artisanal gold site on the border, killing dozens of miners, Cameroonians among them.

Why it matters here

Ten outlets reported it, with death tolls from 33 to at least 49. Living Signals keeps every figure next to its source instead of picking one. Satellite imagery from earlier in the year shows the cleared area growing from under one hectare to about 154 hectares.

The imagery shows how the site grew, not the collapse itself.

Inputs for disruption models

In one study of Latin America, only 5.3% of protests reported in national newspapers reached the international English-language press (source: Herkenrath & Knoll, International Journal of Comparative Sociology, 2011, opens in a new tab). Our daily local reporting on strikes, blockades and unrest is structured to feed your route and supplier risk models.
