Peace and security data

Common questions

What Living Signals is, where the data comes from, and how to use it.

About Living Signals

What is Living Signals?

Living Signals is a peace and security data company. We turn local and international news coverage — 2,000+ sources in 25+ languages across 48 countries — into a structured, daily data layer of corroborated signals, each traceable to its source articles. Teams at international organisations, NGOs, research institutes and risk-advisory firms use it through an analyst dashboard, data exports, a REST API, and an MCP connector for AI assistants such as Claude.

Is Living Signals a conflict tracker?

No — Living Signals is a peace and security data company, and violence is two of its eleven categories. Other categories include displacement and migration; health and humanitarian; environmental; women, peace and security; and peace, justice and reform. Every signal links back to the reporting it came from, and the data supports analysts rather than replacing them.

How is it different from conflict-event datasets?

Conflict-event datasets code violent events; Living Signals covers a broader set of peace and security developments. It covers eleven categories, from Conflict & Unrest and Violence & Harm to Displacement & Migration, Health & Humanitarian, Environmental, Women, Peace & Security, Social Harms, and Peace, Justice & Reform. Slow-onset risks and positive-peace developments are as visible as violent events. It complements event data with daily signals from multilingual local reporting and a source link on every claim.

The data

Where does the data come from?

Living Signals collects reporting daily from the feeds and web pages of local, national and international news outlets: 2,000+ active sources in 25+ languages across 48 countries. Language models extract individual claims from each article, and claims about the same development are grouped into signals: corroborated, time-bounded developments for each country. Each signal is graded against the coverage categories. Every claim links back to its source article.

How accurate is it — do you verify reports?

Living Signals shows what sources report and does not independently verify each report. Every claim links back to the article it came from. Corroboration means several sources reporting the same development. Analysts make the judgement; the data makes the reporting searchable and traceable.

Do you use social media?

Living Signals does not use social media today. The team deliberately starts from published reporting with traceable sources and is testing social media with local partners before adding it.

How often is it updated?

Living Signals processes reporting daily, overnight.

Which countries do you cover?

Living Signals covers 48 countries, with coverage expanding country by country. Subscriptions are scoped to the countries and regions your team covers. Contact us to discuss your countries.

How far back does the data go?

Coverage starts in June 2026 for the first countries; countries added later start from their launch date.

Using it

Can I use it in Claude, ChatGPT or other AI assistants?

Yes — Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants that support MCP connectors can query Living Signals data directly. Connect to https://app.livingsignals.io/mcp and authenticate with an API key managed on the access page.

Is there an API or data export?

Yes — Living Signals offers a documented REST API and CSV data exports. Read the API documentation for integration details. Each export includes a README, and every row links to its source articles. You can also use the analyst dashboard: Signal Explorer, Brief and Desk.

Who is Living Signals for?

Living Signals is built for risk-advisory firms and insurers, international organisations, NGOs and humanitarian responders, and research institutes and universities. Teams use it through the analyst dashboard, data exports, the REST API and the MCP connector.
